Summer camp in the Swiss Alps
In June/July, a number of Troop 401 Scouts went to the annual Transatlantic Council
summer camp in Kandersteg, Switzerland for a week of camp and activities.
Activities are divided into three age groups. In the first one, the new scouts work on rank
requirements for ranks up to and including First Class. In the second group, scouts work on
merit badges. There are a huge range of merit badges to choose from. In the third group,
older scouts do the summit programme where they can do high adventure activities such as
hiking, climbing, rafting etc. Troop 401 Scouts camped together and cooked as a group each
evening.
Two Troop 401 Scouts also worked as staff on the camp which involves a week of training
and then working (with payment!) over the two weeks that the camp runs.
On the last day of camp, the units have a free day where they can do activities as a troop.
Including hiking and swimming.
