Jaxon's Eagle Project
The highlight of most Scouts’ journey to Eagle is the challenging service project that they
have to develop and lead while working on their Eagle rank. In April, Jaxon carried out
his service project which involved many Scouts in the Troop helping out.
The aim of the project was to make a green space owned by the beneficiary, Granville
Community Kitchen, viable for community use. The space was once a public park, but had
since fallen into a state of disrepair. The beneficiary purchased the space with the hope of
transforming it into a joint community garden and communal space for the neighbourhood.
Enter Jaxon and Troop 401 to help execute that plan!
The project involved a huge amount of landscaping work such as weeding and laying mulch.
However, before that could be done, a large amount of unwanted material and debris had
to be removed from the site. This included cutting down many overgrown thorn bushes and
tree branches in the site using a combination of garden tools. An old rotten wood stage also
had to be destroyed and removed using a combination of sledge hammers and shovels.
Some new benches were also added and some old ones renovated. Landscaping adding soil
to the plant beds and planter boxes and adding some plants.
This was a large and challenging project but under the excellent leadership of Jaxon and the
hard work of Troop 401 it ended up being a huge success and the beneficiary was extremely
happy with the end result.
