Troop 401 Mayflower Camporee

Troop 401 Mayflower Camporee 28 - 30 September 2018

On Friday, 28 September 2018, was the fall Mayflower Camporee. The theme was the Way of the Merry Men. The activities related to Robin Hood. There were 15 activities that required different Scout skills, such as lashings, teamwork and most of all fun. The Webelos from Pack 175 also joined in.

We arrived Friday evening and set up our camp. On Saturday, we woke up and ate breakfast. The Patrols cooked breakfast burritos and eggs, sausages, and baked beans.

This is the Troop and the Pack cooking breakfast. Then we had the opening ceremony. Then we started our morning activities, which consisted of pinball, barrel roll, fire-making and archery.

This is the Phoenix patrol doing pinball and archery.

The aim in the pinball was to fire three balls into an area marked off with pegs. The Phoenix patrol blew at the ball to push it into the best areas.(this is also known as cheating but the supervisor didn’t tell us off)

We also did a barrel roll and made fires. The aim in the barrel roll was to roll a barrel around a course. The course consisted of two straight bits, and a roundabout.

The aim the fire making was to try and boil two centimeters of water on a fire you build and light yourself. We got 5 matches to try and light the fire. We succeeded on our fifth match.

This is the Nighthawks doing an orienteering project. The aim of this is to create a shape by using foot measurements.you tried to see who was the most exact at measuring to meters with their feet. Then the judges would give you a coordinate and a measurement. Then you would have to measure out the length with your feet.

We cooked and ate lunch. The patrols had ham and cheese crepes and tacos. Then we had the afternoon activities.

This is the Phoenix patrol creating a catapult. The aim of making a catapult is to fire a beanbag onto a target using a beanbag. This required all our knowledge of lashings it also required our teams strength. You used a pulley too pull the arm up and fired the catapult.

This is the Nighthawks creating an A-frame. The aim was to ‘walk’ the A-frame down a marked path. This required plenty of teamwork. None of us managed to make it farther than halfway.

We went back to our campsite and Cyrus had started our campfire. We ate dinner. Some of the patrols had spaghetti bolognaise and spaghetti and meatballs. We sat around the campfire and toasted marshmallows to make s’mores.

We all sat and talked and had some fun before we had to go to the big campfire. The sunsets they had there were absolutely stunning

We woke up the next morning and ate breakfast. Some patrols had pancakes and the other had eggs. We went to the closing ceremony and found out we placed 2nd and 3rd. Phoenix was 3rd and Nighthawks were 2nd. We went back and broke camp. We came back to Lockaway and unloaded all of the stuff.
