American Independence Day Picnic July 2
Troop 401 and Pack 175, if you are in London this Sunday 2 July, please join us and volunteer at the big annual American Independence Day Picnic in central London!
It is a fun afternoon, and a big party! Hundreds of people. Live entertainment all afternoon. Loads of great food stands: BBQ, cheesesteaks, tacos, hot dogs, veggie fare, American bakeries, popcorn and plenty more. Activities all afternoon. We have participated in this for 5 years running, and it is really fun. (It is run by Democrats Abroad UK, for the entire American community.) We will lead flag ceremony and Pledge of Allegiance (naturally!); run the traditional games for kids and adults (sack races, rope pulls, egg and spoon races, and other fun stuff), and run the bouncy castle for younger kids. You will also have some time to relax, eat, and watch the entertainment. This will count as Community Service hours (during the time you are working), for rank requirements and Service awards, but please come along even if you do not need any service hours for rank. Service is a core part of Scouting! Please come in full uniform. This is an excellent way to spread the word about BSA Scouting to American families who do not even know we are here. We have several members now who found out about us only because they saw us at this picnic. Doors are open from noon-5pm, in Portman Square W1H 6AR. Any Scout volunteering to serve will have free entry, and some free refreshments (bring some money along for the food stalls). For others, the picnic is ticketed to cover organization costs (£12.50 for adults, £3.50 for kids). Bring your entire family!
